Australian Man Arrested in Connection with Largest Drug Ring in ACT History
Michael Adam Kustic, a 39-year-old man from Googong, NSW, has been arrested and is facing a staggering 40 charges related to his alleged involvement in what authorities believe to be the largest drug ring in the history of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).
Arrests Made in NSW and Victoria
Kustic was apprehended on December 8 at his residence in Googong, located near Canberra. He was later extradited to the ACT alongside Thomas Kelleher, 38, and James Martens, 27, who were arrested in Gordon, west of Melbourne.
Charges and Bail Refused
Kustic's charges include trafficking of a commercial quantity of a controlled drug, participating in a criminal group, multiple counts of fraud, and supplying anabolic steroids. As of now, he has not entered a plea. It is important to note that additional charges may be added once all seized drugs have been fully tested. The testing process is expected to take 12-18 months.
Record-Breaking Seizures
Authorities have stated that the drugs and organized crime team have never before seized such a substantial quantity of drugs, with an estimated value of $5.5 million. In addition to the drugs, approximately $2.3 million worth of cryptocurrencies were also confiscated. The substances seized include anabolic steroids, human growth hormones, cannabis oil, Xanax, and psilocybin.
Assets Seized
In addition to the drugs and cryptocurrencies, law enforcement officials have also confiscated significant assets. These include a house, five vehicles, three motorcycles, designer goods, and electronic devices. However, authorities have not yet been able to access password-protected devices and cryptocurrency wallets.
Investigation and Court Appearances
Kustic's bail was denied, and the magistrate overseeing the case has urged the police to expedite their investigation. The accused is expected to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court again on March 28. Meanwhile, Kelleher and Martens will have their court appearances on February 29 and March 28 respectively.

Detective Inspector Mark Steel stressed that these arrests should serve as a strong warning to individuals involved in illegal activities across borders. The successful operation highlights the dedication of law enforcement officers in combating organized crime.
