Stellantis Abandons Battery-Electric Ram 1500 Pickup, Focuses on Extended-Range Model
Stellantis, the parent company of Ram, announced on September 12, 2025, that it is halting development of its full-size battery-electric Ram 1500 pickup truck. The decision comes as a response to declining demand for full-size battery-electric trucks in the North American market.
In a statement shared with TechCrunch, Stellantis explained, “As demand for full-size battery-electric trucks slows in North America, Stellantis is reassessing its product strategy and will discontinue development of a full-size BEV pickup.” Consequently, Ram has renamed its extended-range electric vehicle (REEV) pickup from Ramcharger to Ram 1500 REV.
The Ram 1500 REV diverges from the originally planned fully electric model by integrating a battery with a gasoline-powered generator. This hybrid approach offers an estimated driving range of approximately 690 miles, aiming to balance electric capabilities with range confidence and towing performance.
Initially unveiled at CES 2023, the all-electric Ram 1500 pickup was a key component of Stellantis’ ambitious plan to launch over 25 new battery-electric vehicles in the U.S. by 2030.
