The Tulsa County Sheriff’s Department is embarking on a new technological endeavor at the Tulsa State Fair, employing advanced surveillance technology to ensure the safety and security of fairgoers. The integration of D3 security towers and a drone dog aims to provide comprehensive coverage and address potential threats efficiently.
D3 Security Towers: A New Era of Monitoring
Upon entering the fairgrounds, visitors might notice the imposing D3 security towers. These units, courtesy of LiveView Technologies, are both solar and battery-powered. They offer real-time video streaming and recording capabilities, storing all footage securely in the cloud. One of the standout features of these towers is their facial recognition software. This technology is capable of identifying individuals with active arrest warrants and can also be instrumental in locating missing children. Furthermore, the towers possess the ability to recognize individuals carrying firearms, a significant feature given that over half of the arrests at last year’s fair involved firearms.
Cost-Effective Security Solutions
Sheriff Vic Regalado revealed that these surveillance units were acquired at a favorable rate. "They were kind enough to allow us to use them for free to test them out," he noted, highlighting the collaborative effort with LiveView Technologies. This arrangement not only enhances security but does so in a cost-effective manner, ensuring taxpayers' funds are utilized efficiently.
Drone Dog: A Technological Marvel
In addition to the towers, the fair will also see the deployment of a drone dog. Designed by Swift Creek Consulting, this robotic canine is not just for show. "It looks like basically a chocolate lab, but it’s white. It’s about the same size as a chocolate lab," explained Michael Stopp of Swift Creek Consulting. This remotely operated dog is equipped with cameras and detection software capable of identifying hazardous materials, explosives, and weapons. The inclusion of such sophisticated technology marks a leap forward in public safety measures, providing law enforcement with the tools needed to respond swiftly to potential threats.
