Kempower to Introduce Next-Generation Chargers with Silicon Carbide Technology
Finnish electric vehicle (EV) charging solutions provider, Kempower, is set to revolutionize the industry with its introduction of next-generation chargers powered by silicon carbide (SiC) technology. The company plans to begin customer deliveries of this innovative technology in the first quarter of 2024.
Kempower’s chargers, based on SiC technology, offer several advantages over traditional chargers. The use of SiC technology allows for improved electrical compatibility with existing site locations, making the transition to these chargers seamless. Furthermore, this technology contributes to increased grid resilience for large-scale deployments of EV chargers.
Chief Market Officer of Kempower, Jussi Vanhanen, expressed excitement about the release of the next-generation charger platform, stating, “With the next-generation charger platform, we release the Kempower Power Module Version 2, featuring silicon carbide (SiC) technology.” Vanhanen emphasized that increased efficiency and power factor up to 0.98 PF would not only reduce electrical infrastructure costs but also deliver the same charging power to electric vehicles as the previous design.
In addition to its technological advancements, Kempower has also developed a robust supply chain in Europe and North America to support the rollout of its next-generation charger platform. This sustainable supply chain will enable the company to scale up production and meet the growing demands of the EV market.
Kempower’s dedication to innovation has proven fruitful, as the company recently secured a 10 million euros funding aimed at boosting heavy-duty electric mobility. It has also inked a contract to deliver DC charging solutions for heavy-duty vehicles to Milence, a joint venture formed by leading companies Traton Group, Volvo Group, and Daimler Truck AG.
While the first quarter of 2024 will mark the beginning of customer deliveries for Kempower’s next-generation chargers, North American markets can expect these cutting-edge chargers in the second quarter of the same year.
With its commitment to sustainable technology and a strong supply chain, Kempower is poised to revolutionize the EV charging industry and contribute to the global shift towards greener transportation.
