Kazakhstan Expands Export of Government Technology Solutions to Kyrgyz Republic, Sierra Leone, and Togo
Kazakhstan showcased its government technology (GovTech) solutions to the world during the Digital Almaty 2024 forum held from Feb. 1-3. The event witnessed the signing of several memorandums of understanding, solidifying Kazakhstan’s commitment to exporting its innovative IT solutions for e-government development.
Notably, Kazakhstan’s renowned IT solutions, including Smart Bridge, the Unified Platform for Internet Resources of Government Agencies, and the Smart Data Ukimet information and analytical system, will now be shared with the Kyrgyz Republic. This move follows a similar memorandum of cooperation signed in December, which facilitated the export of some components of Kazakhstan’s e-government to Tajikistan.
Expanding its cooperation further, Kazakhstan also agreed on information and communication technology collaboration with Sierra Leone and Togo. Salima Mornorna Bah, Minister of Communication, Technology, and Innovation of Sierra Leone, praised Kazakhstan’s standing as a “big open-source country” and its willingness to share digital systems and platforms. Bah emphasized that the memorandum with Sierra Leone not only promises mutual benefits for both nations but also opens doors for Kazakhstani private sector companies to explore opportunities in Africa.
These GovTech export initiatives align with President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s ambitious goal of reaching $1 billion in IT services exports by 2026. By shifting its focus from traditional raw materials exports to the high-tech sector, Kazakhstan aims to tap into new markets and position itself as a leader in the GovTech industry.
