Google Engineers Hack Sony PlayStation Portal to Run PSP Games
A group of Google engineers has successfully hacked Sony’s PlayStation Portal, enabling it to run games designed for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). The Portal, which was launched in November, was initially limited to playing games specifically made for the PlayStation 5. However, Google’s team managed to intervene and expand the Portal’s capabilities.
To achieve this impressive feat, the engineers utilized PPSSPP, an open-source emulator designed specifically for playing PSP games. Remarkably, the hack was entirely software-based and did not necessitate the addition of any new hardware.
Despite the groundbreaking technical achievement, the software will not be made available to the public. Consequently, the ability to play PSP games on the Portal will not be widely accessible for the foreseeable future.
Analyst comment
Neutral news.
As an analyst, the market for PSP games may experience a slight decline in sales as users opt to play them on the hacked PlayStation Portal. However, the limited availability of the hack to the public suggests that the impact on the market will be minimal.
