DFZ Labs Incubates New Gaming Project in Bitcoin Ordinals Ecosystem
DFZ Labs, the creative studio behind the popular Deadfellaz NFT collection and the upcoming RIP TCG digital card game, is venturing into the Bitcoin Ordinals ecosystem with a collaborative gaming project. The project, called Bits, is a collection of 10,000 Bitcoin Ordinals inscriptions designed to resemble the greenish pixel look of Nintendo’s original Game Boy. Each unique character profile picture (PFP) in the collection will provide access to a “supercharged game development incubator” created by DFZ Labs.
Launch on Magic Eden’s Bitcoin Marketplace
The launch of the Bits project will take place on February 13 on Magic Eden’s Bitcoin marketplace. DFZ Labs is collaborating with infrastructure startup OrdinalsBot for the inscription process of the 10,000 Ordinals assets, while Xverse will serve as its preferred Bitcoin wallet partner.
A Community-Led Venture
DFZ Labs emphasizes that Bits is not simply another initiative led by its co-founders. Instead, they describe it as an “independent brand” incubated by DFZ Labs and led by members of the Deadfellaz community. Betty and Psych, the pseudonymous married co-founders of DFZ Labs, will serve as mentors and advisors for the Bits project.
A Modular Gaming Ecosystem on Bitcoin
The Bits team aims to create a “roguelite” game, a genre known for its challenging gameplay and elements of various other genres. The goal is to design a game where Bits owners can shape and contribute to its development. After an alpha test, the core Bits team intends to enhance the game with engaging combat, minigames, storytelling, and upgrade systems.
Embracing the Play-to-Earn Model
DFZ Labs sees the potential of building a gaming ecosystem on Bitcoin using Ordinals. The project aims to provide indie developers with the financial incentives and opportunities of the Bitcoin ecosystem, while also rewarding contributors and players. By leveraging Bitcoin’s security and decentralization, DFZ Labs aims to create products that gamers truly want to play, fostering innovation and community engagement.
Rewarding Deadfellaz Collectors and Community Contributors
To reward top Deadfellaz collectors and community contributors, DFZ Labs has already taken a community snapshot and plans to airdrop 500 of the Bits inscriptions ahead of the February 13 launch. The speed of innovation in the Ordinals ecosystem is what excites DFZ Labs, as they aim to bring that same innovation to the indie gaming community through the Bits project.
