Dead Cells Update 35 Marks Final Creative Update, Developer Motion Twin Announces
Developer and publisher Motion Twin has revealed that Update 35 will be the last creative update for the critically acclaimed game Dead Cells. In a recent post on Steam, the team explained that it is important not to overextend and risk diminishing the unique charm of the game. This announcement comes after the success of the most recent expansion, Return to Castlevania, which was released to strong reception in 2023.
Motion Twin and Evil Empire, the studios behind Dead Cells, have been at the forefront of the metroidvania roguelite genre since the game’s initial launch in 2018. The game quickly became an indie darling and continues to enjoy success in the gaming community. In fact, Insider Gaming recently interviewed Evil Empire COO Benjamin Laulan as part of The Indie Initiative in October 2023.
Despite the end of fresh DLC updates, there is still much to look forward to in the Dead Cells universe. Motion Twin and Evil Empire have announced an animated series based on the game, set on a cursed island plagued by a mysterious disease. The series is being produced by Bobbypills, though a release date has yet to be confirmed. Additionally, a midweight board game adaptation of Dead Cells is in the works, with production set to begin soon.
While the focus may now shift to new adventures with Evil Empire, the developers have stated their commitment to fixing any quality of life issues and bugs across all platforms. This dedication to the player experience ensures that Dead Cells will continue to provide an enjoyable and polished gameplay experience for fans.
In other gaming news, Ubisoft recently announced plans to launch XDefiant by the end of March 31st.
