Calm Introduces Standalone iOS App Focused on Personalized Sleep Improvement

Calm has unveiled a new dedicated iOS application, Calm Sleep, designed to deliver tailored support for improving sleep quality. The app, announced on Tuesday, aims to help users unwind, achieve better sleep, and wake up feeling refreshed.

Personalized Sleep Plans and Habit Tracking

Upon launching Calm Sleep, users complete a brief onboarding questionnaire that informs a customized sleep plan. This plan includes recommended content and daily tasks targeting key areas such as digital hygiene, physical activity, stress management, and optimizing the sleep environment.

A notable feature is the “sleep readiness” bar, which visually tracks users’ progress as they complete daily tasks. According to Calm, this tool encourages the development of healthier sleep habits by providing real-time feedback throughout the day.

Wearable Integration and Exclusive Content

Calm Sleep integrates with Apple HealthKit, enabling synchronization with various wearable devices. This connectivity allows users to leverage their sleep data for more informed adjustments to their routines.

The app launches with new Sleep Stories narrated by radio personality Delilah and actor Andrew Scott, supplementing an extensive library of over 300 hours of sleep-focused content and 500 Sleep Stories. Notably, new sleep content will have a four-week exclusivity period on Calm Sleep before becoming available on Calm’s primary app.

Calm’s Sleep Expertise and Market Position

Calm has been active in the sleep content domain for a decade, initially gaining recognition with its Sleep Stories. These audio bedtime stories, designed for both children and adults, have accumulated over 1 billion plays.

Jon Tien, Chief Product Officer at Calm, emphasized the company’s leadership in sleep solutions: “Calm is a global leader in sleep, with more than half our users already turning to us for rest and some of the most widely used content and tools on the market. Now with Calm Sleep, we’re introducing a product built entirely around the sleep experience, from daytime habits to nighttime routines. We’re helping people feel more empowered in their sleep journey, not just more informed about it, bringing back a sense of ease and joy to bedtime.”

Availability and Pricing

The free version of Calm Sleep provides access to the personalized sleep plan, daily habit tracking, and wearable integration. To access the full content library and advanced features, users can subscribe to Calm Sleep Premium at an annual cost of $69.99.

While currently available only on iOS, Calm has announced plans to release an Android version in the future.

FinOracleAI — Market View

Calm’s launch of a standalone sleep-focused app represents a strategic move to deepen user engagement by offering personalized interventions and leveraging wearable integration. This product diversification could enhance Calm’s competitive positioning in the mental wellness and sleep aid market. However, subscription pricing and the delay of an Android version may limit immediate adoption.
