Driven by Innovation: Ultrium, A Groundbreaking AI Technology Poised to Transform Mobility and Tech in Detroit

CEO Paris Plain and co-founders Mario Patton and Justin Ayler have embarked on an ambitious journey to revolutionize the tech and auto industry with their innovative AI technology, Ultrium, based in Detroit. Despite their demanding day jobs, they have dedicated their passion and expertise to this project, aiming to transform vehicle maintenance and performance.

Ayler, joining the Ultrium team as Fleet Management Advisor and managing partner just months ago, brings over 15 years of experience in running a highly efficient fleet company. “Ultrium by trade, we are a software company specializing in advanced AI and Mobility Solutions,” Plain said. “We aimed to address critical problems in the mobility space, with vehicle maintenance being one of the largest and most pressing issues.”

Ultrium utilizes real-time vehicle canbus data and state-of-the-art AI to predict maintenance needs well in advance, preventing expensive breakdowns and boosting vehicle performance. “We provide this data in real-time to users on their phone, laptop, tablet, or internet-enabled devices, allowing them to see what mechanics would see instantly,” noted Plain.

Proactive Maintenance and Data-Driven Solutions

The primary goal of Ultrium is to equip fleet managers and individual car owners with advanced predictive maintenance solutions through AI and machine learning technologies. This approach not only offers peace of mind but also saves valuable time and resources.

A Technological Leap

Data is gathered from a portable plug-in device connected to a data processing server at Ultrium’s office in Newlab. “This OBD port device transfers data back and forth, providing daily updates after an initial one-month data collection period,” said Plain.

Ultrium’s technology is redefining the automotive industry in Detroit, providing a proactive approach to vehicle maintenance. “Our industries collided to create this breakthrough,” said Patton. “I have experience in vehicle testing while Paris has a tech background. Our combined expertise led to the development of Ultrium’s software and hardware, which can foresee maintenance needs accurately.”

Financial Support and Pilot Programs

Thanks to a $100,000 grant from Michigan Central, Ultrium has successfully developed a prototype that has undergone rigorous testing, showing a 15% increase in prediction accuracy and a 20% reduction in maintenance expenses for initial partners. They have transitioned into pilot stages with Access Point Towing, a local towing company.

“Our pilot with Access Point Towing has been running for about three months, leveraging their daily interaction with vehicles to refine our data,” said Plain.

Future Innovations and Partnerships

Looking ahead, Ultrium is poised for more innovations. Plain recently met an executive engineer from Tesla and is now in partnership talks to improve battery management for Tesla vehicles. These advancements will soon be prototyped at Newlab.

“We have an incredible team including three engineers, myself, Mario who has an exceptional mind for numbers, our full-stack developer, and Lindsey, our organizational development expert,” Plain concluded.

Ultrium’s journey symbolizes a significant step towards innovation in vehicle maintenance and mobility solutions, heralding a new era for the Detroit tech scene.
