A recent study conducted by the Duale Hochschule Baden-Württemberg at the Service Management Study Center (ZMM) has delved into the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its capability to recognize discriminatory content in images and advertisements. The study sheds light on both the impressive progress that AI has made in this field, as well as the existing limitations it still faces.
Impressive Accuracy: AI Identifies Discriminatory Ads
The researchers presented a wide range of images and advertisements to AI, tasking it with evaluating them. Among the images were 60 advertisements that had previously been criticized by the German Advertising Council for their potentially discriminatory content. The results were remarkable, showing that AI had a remarkable ability to identify discriminatory elements in the ads, with an impressive accuracy rate (F1 Score: 0.949). Consequently, the AI recognized the criticized advertisements as potentially discriminatory, while non-discriminatory ads received no warnings in most cases.
