Kennesaw State University to Offer Master’s Degree in Artificial Intelligence
The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia has approved Kennesaw State University’s plan to launch a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence (MSAI) degree program. The program will begin in the Fall 2024 semester, making Kennesaw State the second school in Georgia to offer a master’s degree in AI.
The MSAI program consists of 30 credit hours and can typically be completed within a year and a half by full-time students. An accelerated pace option allows completion in just one year, spanning three semesters.
The new MSAI program will be housed in the College of Computing and Software Engineering at Kennesaw State. It will build upon the existing Artificial Intelligence Concentration in the Department of Computer Science. The program aims to equip students with the skills and expertise needed for various career fields in the rapidly evolving domain of artificial intelligence.
The interdisciplinary nature of the MSAI degree will include curriculum and research strengths in computer science, data science, information technology, and software engineering. Graduates will be prepared for roles such as AI application developer, ethics researcher, product manager, research scientist, solutions architect, or algorithm developer.
According to PricewaterhouseCoopers’ Global Artificial Intelligence Study, the AI industry is projected to contribute $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 21 percent growth rate in employment for computer and information research scientists, including AI professionals, from 2021 to 2031.
To ensure students are well-prepared for real-world challenges in AI, the program will focus on hands-on learning and practical experience. Coursework, internships, collaborative assignments, and capstone courses and projects will provide students with valuable AI knowledge.
With its Carnegie-designated doctoral research institution (R2) status, Kennesaw State University is an esteemed institution within the University System of Georgia. The university has 11 academic colleges, a vibrant campus culture, a diverse population, strong global ties, and an entrepreneurial spirit.
