Ubisoft Reveals ‘Captain Laserhawk’ Game on Ethereum Layer-2 Arbitrum

Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance creator Ubisoft is diving deeper into the crypto gaming world. Their next big project? Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. on Ethereum layer-2 network Arbitrum.

Based on Netflix Series Universe

This game shares its universe with the Netflix animated series "Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix," which is inspired by the 2013 game Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon. This means fans can expect characters from other big Ubisoft franchises, including Assassin’s Creed, Rayman, and Beyond Good & Evil.

What’s the Game About?

Right now, it’s a bit of a mystery what Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. will look like. On Tuesday, Ubisoft described it as a “transmedia experience”. This ambitious project will be community-driven and mainly built on Arbitrum.

No Gameplay Footage Yet

So far, we’ve seen just a cinematic teaser, which feels similar to the Netflix show. Ubisoft’s statement emphasized that players will make progress by overcoming challenges both inside and outside of Ubisoft's ecosystem. It also mentioned pushing the story forward through innovative Web3 governance, suggesting an experimental web-based experience rather than a traditional game.

Community Influence

“As the story unfolds, the entire community will have the opportunity to influence the plot and participate in key decision-making moments by unlocking, creating, and sharing content,” Ubisoft stated. This game’s special feature is its unprecedented level of player influence.

Collaboration and Development

Captain Laserhawk: The G.A.M.E. stands for “General Assignment Mandatory Entertainment”. It’s being developed alongside the Arbitrum Foundation and Horizon’s Sequence crypto game development suite. Nicolas Pouard, Ubisoft Labs VP, emphasized how this would allow for shared creation and collaboration, giving players a real hand in shaping the game.

Ubisoft’s Crypto Ventures

Ubisoft is already a big player in the crypto gaming space. They’ve partnered, invested, and experimented a lot in recent years. In 2021, they launched in-game NFTs for Ghost Recon: Breakpoint and are working on another original game, Champions Tactics, on the gaming network Oasys.

By bringing Captain Laserhawk to Arbitrum, Ubisoft is setting the stage for a new era of collaborative and transparent game development. Stay tuned for more updates as this exciting project unfolds.
