Toyota Halts Grand Highlander and Lexus TX Deliveries Due to Air Bag Issue
Toyota Motor has suspended production and delivery of its Grand Highlander and Lexus TX sport utility vehicles (SUVs) because of an issue with the air bags. This decision follows a recall of 145,000 of these vehicles in the United States over concerns that the curtain shield airbag on the driver's side may not function properly during certain crashes if the driver’s window is rolled down.
Suspension Until a Solution is Found
The automaker has temporarily halted the manufacturing and shipments of these three-row SUVs. Toyota stated this action will remain in place "until a remedy can be determined." The company is currently studying an improvement for mass-produced vehicles to address the airbag issue.
Potential Safety Risk
If the airbag issue is not resolved, it may result in the vehicles failing to meet a federal safety standard, potentially increasing the risk of injury during specific types of crashes.
Customer Notification
Toyota has ensured that customers will be informed about this problem by mid-August. However, it is still unclear when the company will announce the official solution to this recall. Both the Grand Highlander and Lexus TX are produced at Toyota's assembly plant in Princeton, Indiana.
