Starbucks Implements Inclusive Spaces Framework to Improve Customer Experience and Accessibility
Starbucks, the global coffeehouse chain, is making significant changes to its stores to enhance customer experience and accessibility. The company is introducing the Inclusive Spaces Framework in all new and renovated outlets, with the goal of achieving a higher standard of accessibility in both physical and digital environments by 2030.
The implementation of the Inclusive Spaces Framework includes the adoption of more inclusive design standards and experiences. The initiative will begin in the United States and then expand globally. Starbucks is testing various technology solutions to improve accessibility, such as speech-to-text technology for easier order placement and pickups, and order readiness notifications to visually inform customers when their order is ready.
Katie Young, Starbucks' senior vice president of store operations, expressed the company's commitment to reimagining customer and partner interactions and experiences. The Inclusive Spaces Framework aims to provide greater access for all individuals. The framework will include a range of accessibility features, such as optimized acoustics and lighting, an updated point-of-sale system with visual order confirmation, accessible entrances, unobstructed pedestrian paths, and low counters for wheelchair access.
This new initiative builds upon Starbucks' previous efforts to enhance accessibility. The company has been offering the free Aira service for visually impaired customers since 2021, providing menus in multiple formats, and operating 11 Signing Stores for the Deaf and hard of hearing community.
Starbucks' commitment to improving accessibility and inclusivity reflects its dedication to creating a positive and welcoming environment for all customers. By implementing the Inclusive Spaces Framework, Starbucks aims to ensure that every individual can fully enjoy their coffee experience.
