German software company SAP nominates Pekka Ala-Pietila as potential chair of supervisory board
German software company SAP has announced that it has nominated Finnish businessman Pekka Ala-Pietila as its potential chair of the supervisory board. This comes after the current chair designate, Punit Renjen, decided to resign. The decision to nominate Ala-Pietila will be put forward for election at the next general meeting.
Ala-Pietila brings vast experience to the table, having previously served as the president of Nokia Corporation and as a member of SAP’s supervisory board from 2002 to 2021. Currently, he holds positions as the chairman of the board at packaging company Huhtamaki, learning company Sanoma Corporation, and the HERE Technology supervisory board.
Renjen, a former CEO of Deloitte, will be stepping down due to a “difference in perspective on the role of SAP Supervisory Board chair.” Further details regarding this difference were not provided in SAP’s statement. Renjen’s resignation will be effective at SAP’s next annual general meeting on May 15. He was originally designated as the chairman of the board in February last year, to succeed Hasso Plattner, SAP’s co-founder, after his 20-year term expires in May 2024.
The news of these changes in leadership at SAP comes as the company continues to evolve and navigate the ever-changing software industry. Stay tuned for updates as the election for the new chairperson approaches.
