Maryland Scores Grant to Implement New Technology in Businesses
BALTIMORE, Md. – Today, Maryland Governor Wes Moore announced a significant grant that will benefit small and mid-sized businesses in the state.
The Maryland Department of Commerce has received a $1,010,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains. This funding is intended to speed up the adoption of smart manufacturing technology. The grant is part of the larger State Manufacturing Leadership Program, a $50 million federal initiative that has given awards to 12 state-run programs across the United States.
"Manufacturing is a critical part of Maryland's economy. Continuing to encourage business communities to invest in smart manufacturing technologies will help give our state the edge it needs to stay competitive in an evolving landscape," said Moore.
The funds will be allocated in three main areas:
- Technology Readiness Assessments for manufacturers.
- Technical Assistance for Industry 4.0 technology implementation.
- An overall expansion of the existing Maryland Manufacturing 4.0 program.
According to the state, businesses investing in Industry 4.0 technologies can experience increased productivity and sales, cost savings, and employee retention.
Maryland Department of Commerce Secretary Kevin Anderson stated that with additional support from the U.S. Department of Energy, Maryland is positioned to continue leading in Industry 4.0 and smart technologies.
By implementing these advanced technologies, Maryland aims to maintain its competitive edge in the evolving manufacturing landscape and support the growth of its local businesses.
