Over $9M in Gaming Grants Provided to 200+ Dauphin County Initiatives

Over 200 initiatives in Dauphin County are set to benefit from a significant boost, as Hollywood Casino allocates $9.1 million in gaming funds. The grants, approved by the Dauphin County Board of Commissioners, will be made available through the local share revenue program. This injection of capital is set to play a vital role in supporting the community, preventing increases in property taxes, and improving public resources such as fire equipment and parks.

Board Chairman George Hartwick III expressed his gratitude for the funds, stating, “These projects and programs are vital to the community and would require taxpayer funds if not for the local share revenue.” The recipients of the grants were carefully chosen by the Dauphin County Gaming Advisory Board (GAB) and presented to the commissioners for final approval.

Commissioner Mike Pries emphasized the positive impact that these gaming dollars will have on the community, noting, “These gaming dollars go a long way in preventing property tax hikes and improving fire equipment, parks, and other public resources.” The $9.1 million grant will be utilized for various purposes, including emergency responder equipment, food bank resources, school security upgrades, handicapped accessible improvements to public buildings, playgrounds, and infrastructure projects.

Board Chairman George Hartwick III highlighted the competitive nature of the grant process, stating, “The grant process is a highly competitive one that will leverage funds for projects that are well worthy of support and will have the greatest community impact.” Commissioner Pries echoed this sentiment, underlining that without these grants, these project costs would have burdened the taxpayers.

Commissioner Justin Douglas expressed his enthusiasm for the increased support for Emergency Medical Services initiatives, particularly in the northern part of the county, as they strive to enhance response times. With these gaming grants, Dauphin County aims to make a lasting difference in its community by providing much-needed financial support to a diverse range of initiatives.
