Aemetis Receives Air Permits for Sustainable Aviation Fuel and Renewable Diesel Plant in California
Aemetis, a renewable fuels and biofuels company, has obtained air permits for its upcoming sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel production facility in Riverbank, California. The permits, known as Authority to Construct permits, were granted by the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District after a thorough technical review and two public comment periods. These permits are vital for Aemetis to move forward with the necessary engineering and financing to construct the plant.
The company also announced that it has secured approvals from the city of Riverbank following a separate technical review and public comment process. This recent accomplishment further paves the way for Aemetis’ plans to establish the facility.
Once operational, the proposed plant aims to produce an impressive 90 million gallons of fuel per year. The production will be divided equally between sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and renewable diesel. However, if Aemetis decides to allocate 100% of its production to SAF, the annual output would still reach a considerable 78 million gallons.
The location of the facility, known as the Riverbank Industrial Complex, boasts several advantageous features. It has an abundant source of 100% renewable hydroelectricity, which aligns perfectly with Aemetis’ commitment to sustainability. Additionally, the complex includes a rail line and storage capacity for up to 120 railcars, 710,000 square feet of buildings, and 50 acres of developable industrial land.
Aemetis is confident in the future success of its venture, as it has projected impressive revenue figures for the following years. According to the company’s five-year plan, the facility is expected to generate an estimated $672 million in revenues in 2027. Furthermore, the adjusted Earnings Before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation, and Amortization (EBITDA) for that year is forecasted to reach $195 million.
With the acquisition of air permits and necessary approvals, Aemetis is inching closer to bringing its vision for sustainable aviation fuel and renewable diesel production to life. The company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability promises to make a significant contribution to the renewable fuels industry while helping reduce carbon emissions in the aviation sector.
