D-ID Acquires Berlin-Based Simpleshow to Strengthen AI Video Solutions

D-ID, a leading platform specializing in AI-powered video generation and editing, announced on Tuesday the acquisition of Simpleshow, a Berlin-based B2B video creation company. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Simpleshow, founded in 2008, has evolved from an agency producing enterprise videos into a SaaS-based platform, boasting over 1,500 enterprise clients including Adobe, Microsoft, Airbus, and Deutsche Bank. The company has raised more than $20 million in funding and maintains offices across Berlin, Luxembourg, London, Miami, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Tokyo.

Under the acquisition, Simpleshow’s offerings will be integrated into D-ID’s product suite, with a planned full merger of the platforms. D-ID CEO Gil Perry stated the deal was motivated by strategic alignment and the desire to accelerate market capture in the enterprise avatar video segment. The combined teams will consolidate operations primarily in Berlin, Tel Aviv, and the United States, comprising approximately 140 employees.

Simpleshow CEO Karsten Boehrs noted the company’s shift from traditional video production to technology-driven solutions, including launching a text-to-video tool in 2017. The rise of AI has propelled Simpleshow to explore partnerships with players such as Synthesia before ultimately opting for acquisition by D-ID.

Looking ahead, D-ID plans to develop interactive training videos that enable users to engage with AI avatars by interrupting video playback to ask questions or participate in quizzes. This innovation aims to enhance user engagement and expand use cases in training, marketing, and sales.

The acquisition positions D-ID to better compete with established rivals like Synthesia and Soul Machines, as well as technology giants such as Google and consulting firms like McKinsey, all of which are advancing digital avatar solutions for enterprises.

D-ID has secured $60 million in funding to date and confirmed it has the necessary capital to support this acquisition, though it chose not to disclose specific financial terms.

This acquisition strategically enhances D-ID’s product portfolio and client base, positioning the company to accelerate growth in the competitive enterprise AI video market. Integrating Simpleshow’s technology and extensive enterprise clientele is expected to improve revenue streams and advance D-ID’s path to profitability. However, market competition remains intense, with key players like Synthesia and Google actively innovating.

Investors should monitor the integration progress and D-ID’s ability to scale interactive avatar solutions, which will be critical for capturing broader enterprise adoption.
