Samsung's Latest Venture into Web3 Technology
Samsung, known for its innovative approach to consumer electronics, recently announced a partnership with Illuvium, a prominent web3 game. This collaboration was unveiled on August 9, marking a significant step in Samsung's ongoing efforts to integrate web3 capabilities into its products. The new line of Samsung Web3 TVs will include support for Illuvium's NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), enabling users to showcase their in-game assets like weapons, characters known as 'Illuvials', and suits from Illuvium's interconnected games directly on their television screens.
Enhancing Home Entertainment
Illuvium highlighted the transformative potential of this partnership, stating it "brings digital art to life on the big screen with stunning clarity." This move seeks to redefine home entertainment by turning TVs into immersive art displays. Samsung's widespread distribution channels are expected to bring Illuvium into millions of homes, paving the way for a new era of digital convergence and immersive experiences.
Upcoming Announcement at Gamescom
Samsung plans to officially announce this strategic partnership at the Gamescom convention in Sydney later this month. Illuvium will have a significant presence at Samsung's booth, offering attendees the chance to engage with its three games: Overworld, Arena, and Zero. Visitors can also participate in competitions to win 10 of Samsung's exclusive GEN3RATOR NFTs. These NFTs, along with the Samsung Gen3 Chip NFTs, provide holders access to a collection of 2,000 digital artworks from various partner projects.
Samsung's Journey in Web3
Samsung has been a frontrunner in incorporating web3 applications into consumer electronics. In May 2022, they launched an NFT Platform for smart TVs, allowing users to browse, purchase, and display NFTs, with Nifty Gateway curating the tokens. April saw the introduction of Samsung's web3 TV bundle, GEN3GATE, which comes with a Ledger Nano X and a GEN3RATOR NFT. This setup unlocks exclusive features such as sweepstakes, discounts, and event access. Samsung Web3 TVs also feature an NFT Gallery, enabling users to display NFTs from their digital wallets.
Collaborations with Leading Web3 Projects
Samsung's web3 partner network includes collaborations with several noteworthy projects besides Illuvium. This includes the World of Women NFT collection, the Polygon Ethereum scaling solution, and the Belvedere Museum—a World Heritage Site. Such collaborations align with Samsung's vision to make diverse web3 experiences accessible to a broad audience. "Our approach is designed to make diverse Web3 experiences easily accessible to everyone," said Sven Greier, vice president of TV/AV at Samsung Electronics GmbH.
Pioneering Web3 since 2019
Samsung's interest in web3 dates back to 2019, starting with the Samsung Blockchain Wallet App. Later that year, they launched the Samsung Blockchain Platform SDK, facilitating the deployment of web-based Ethereum applications on mobile devices. This journey underscores Samsung's commitment to advancing blockchain technology integration and providing users with cutting-edge digital experiences.
