Tesla Recalls Nearly 12,000 Cybertrucks Due to Safety Issues
Tesla is recalling nearly 11,688 Cybertruck electric pickup trucks because their windshield wipers might stop working. This problem can make it hard to see while driving and could lead to a serious accident, according to the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
Tesla is also recalling 11,383 Cybertrucks because the trunk bed trim—the edges around the trunk—might not be attached correctly. If this trim comes loose, it could fall onto the road and become a danger to other drivers, as stated in a separate notice by NHTSA.
Why This is Important
These recalls (pulling products back for safety or repair) come after Tesla had to recall nearly 4,000 Cybertrucks in April to fix a problem with the accelerator pedal pad.
This situation is another challenge for Tesla’s new electric pickup truck, which they began producing in larger numbers just recently. Tesla hasn’t yet shared how many of these trucks have been sold to customers in their quarterly report.
Background on the Cybertruck
Tesla started delivering their new Cybertruck, which looks like something out of a sci-fi movie, in November 2023. This came after several delays and difficulties in getting the production started. Tesla’s CEO, Elon Musk, even said this period was like Tesla digging its own "grave."
Details of the Recall
In a notice from Monday, NHTSA explained, "Excessive electrical current can cause the front windshield wiper motor controller to fail." In simple terms, too much electricity can break the part that makes the windshield wipers move, which could make them stop working when you need them most.
Tesla’s service team will fix these problems for free. For the windshield wiper issue, they’ll replace the motor and for the trunk bed trim, they'll use special tape to make sure it stays in place or replace it if it's missing.
Bigger Picture
According to a report by recall management firm BizzyCar, Tesla had three recalls in the first quarter of this year, affecting approximately 2.4 million vehicles.
What to Do If You Own a Cybertruck
If you have one of these trucks, Tesla will contact you about fixing the problem at no cost. It’s very important to get these issues fixed to stay safe on the road.
Key Takeaway: Safety is the top priority, and if you have a Tesla Cybertruck, keep an eye out for information from Tesla to get your vehicle repaired.
By addressing these safety concerns, Tesla aims to ensure that their cutting-edge electric trucks remain reliable and safe for all drivers.
