Cisco to Set Up Cybersecurity Hub in Taiwan
June 18, 2024
Cisco, the well-known US-based networking technology giant, plans to establish a cybersecurity centre in Taiwan. This move is part of their broader initiative called the Taiwan Digital Acceleration Plan 3.0.
Boosting Cybersecurity in Taiwan
Cisco aims to partner with the Taiwanese government to develop talent and address the global shortage of cybersecurity experts. This step is essential as Taiwan faces increasing concerns over cyberattacks, which the island’s government often attributes to sources from China—a claim China denies.
“In addition, Cisco aims to collaborate with relevant tech associations to establish a security centre in Taiwan for enhanced threat intelligence and cyber readiness,” stated Cisco.
Significant Investments in the Region
Despite not disclosing exact investment figures, Guy Diedrich, Cisco's global innovation officer, emphasized the flexible nature of the digital acceleration programme, suggesting that Cisco is committed to making substantial investments.
“The nice thing about the digital acceleration programme is that there is no ceiling on investments. We continue to make them,” said Diedrich.
Expanding AI Applications
Apart from cybersecurity, the Digital Acceleration Plan 3.0 also includes introducing AI applications in transportation and sustainability. One significant project is planned for Kaohsiung port in southern Taiwan.
Earlier this month, Cisco Investments announced a new $1 billion fund to support AI startups. The fund has already invested in companies like Mistral AI, Cohere, and Scale AI, reflecting Cisco’s strategy to enhance AI capabilities for its customers.
