Google Introduces Automatic Message Summaries to Android Auto, Potentially Expanding to Other Devices
Google has revealed that Android Auto will now have the ability to automatically summarize long texts and busy group chats, thanks to an added Google Assistant feature. This feature may potentially be available on other Assistant-enabled Android devices, like headphones.
To activate the message summary function on Android Auto, users can adjust settings manually through Android Auto Settings > Notifications > Play AI message summaries or accept a prompt from Google. The AI technology behind the feature can summarize single lengthy messages or multiple messages, shortening messages with over 40 words.
For user privacy, Google emphasizes that the Assistant does not log any messages or summaries, and interactions are not used to train the Large Language Model (LLM). Although the specific model used is not specified, Google acknowledges the possibility of mistakes as the summaries are generated by artificial intelligence.
