Families Offered Lumi Nova App to Help Children with Anxiety

NHS Gloucestershire has partnered with Lumi Nova to offer families free access to an app aimed at helping children suffering from anxiety. The app, called Lumi Nova: Tales of Courage, has been successfully trialed across the UK and provides support for children with mild to moderate emotional difficulties.

Bringing Relief to Children with Anxiety

The Lumi Nova app offers a range of quests designed to help children understand their feelings and tackle emotional challenges. Whether it's a fear of the dark, struggling to make friends, or falling behind in school, children using the app can select from various challenges. The app is based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques, which focus on how thoughts, beliefs, and attitudes can impact our emotions and actions.

Dr Mala Ubhi, NHS Gloucestershire's clinical lead for mental health, emphasized the lifelong skills that the app provides, helping children adapt as they grow up. "Whilst it might feel like a computer game, there's definitely evidence behind this sort of technique to manage mild to moderate anxiety for children," she added.

Endorsed by Experts and Schools

Lumi Nova comes highly recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence and has been successfully piloted by schools, including The Rissington School in Cheltenham. Head teacher Sue Dawe spoke highly of the app, highlighting the positive impact it had on the students. "The children really loved setting themselves targets and working through the levels of the exciting intergalactic adventure game, whilst learning skills to self-manage their worries," she said.

Accessible and Inclusive

Access to resources for children's mental health can sometimes be difficult for families. This is where Lumi Nova steps in, providing a readily available resource that is accessible to everyone. By teaming up with NHS Gloucestershire, Lumi Nova is able to offer free access to the app, ensuring that more families can benefit from its anxiety-relieving features.

With many children experiencing low-level anxieties, it's crucial to have resources like Lumi Nova that can help them overcome their difficulties. The app has already proven to be a game-changer for many children, empowering them to self-manage their worries and build essential skills for the future.

Analyst comment

Positive news. The market for mental health apps will likely see an increase in demand as more families gain access to the Lumi Nova app. The app’s success in trials and recommendation by national clinical authorities will further boost its credibility and adoption rate.
