Cryptocurrency Firm Bitcoin Latinum Sues Forbes and Poker.org for Defamation
Bitcoin Latinum, a prominent cryptocurrency firm, has taken legal action against journalists at Forbes and Poker.org, alleging that the writers made false and defamatory statements in their articles. These articles discussed securities fraud lawsuits that were filed against Bitcoin Latinum.
In a bid to defend its reputation, Bitcoin Latinum and its founder, Donald Basile, have filed separate libel lawsuits. The first lawsuit targets Forbes reporter Cyrus Farivar, while the second lawsuit is against Poker.org and its reporter Haley Hintze. Bitcoin Latinum is demanding a retraction of the articles in question.
The lawsuits focus on the claim that these articles portrayed Arshad Assofi’s allegations against Bitcoin Latinum and Basile as factual. Assofi filed a lawsuit in November 2022, accusing Bitcoin Latinum of being a scam and the defendants of securities fraud, among other violations.
Interestingly, the lawsuit against Hintze references an article that doesn’t mention Assofi, but rather another lawsuit pertaining to securities fraud. Strikingly, this particular article was published 10 months prior to the Assofi lawsuit. It’s worth noting that there was a mistake in the lawsuit against Hintze, as it cited an article published in February 2022 instead of the intended article from November 2022.
To navigate these lawsuits, Bitcoin Latinum has enlisted the legal expertise of Holly Whitney, their attorney in both the Farivar and Hintze cases.
Bitcoin Latinum’s decision to take legal action against these journalists highlights its commitment to protecting its reputation amidst allegations of securities fraud. As the lawsuits unfold, the outcome will determine whether these articles will be retracted, providing clarity on the allegations made against the cryptocurrency firm.
