AI Surveillance Systems Deployed for Pran Pratishtha Ceremony Security in Ayodhya
As Ayodhya prepares for the Pran Pratishtha ceremony at the Ram temple on January 22, the Uttar Pradesh government is investing significant resources in ensuring the city remains secure and peaceful. To achieve this, they are deploying AI surveillance systems to identify suspicious activities and track down miscreants. This marks the first time such technology will be used in Ayodhya, which is currently abuzz with preparations for the highly anticipated event.
Staqu Technologies Implements AI-Powered Security System in Ayodhya
Staqu Technologies, a leading Indian tech startup, is responsible for implementing the AI-powered security system in Ayodhya. Atul Rai, the co-founder and CEO of Staqu Technologies, explains that the system will employ a high level of AI surveillance to identify individuals with serious criminal records, including offenses related to terrorism and murder. The existing CCTV cameras in different parts of Ayodhya will be integrated with the AI software to enable efficient artificial intelligence-based city surveillance.
The hotspots in Ayodhya, such as Kanak Bhawan, Hanuman Garhi, Shri Nageshwar Nath Mandir, Ram Ki Paidi, and Ram Janmabhoomi, will be covered by these CCTV cameras, ensuring comprehensive surveillance throughout the city.
How AI Surveillance Will Identify Suspicious Activities in Ayodhya
Staqu Technologies will utilize their audio and video analytics software, Jarvis, to enable AI surveillance in Ayodhya. This software will employ facial recognition and reverse facial recognition techniques to identify objects and people based on general inputs. Reverse facial recognition will allow the police to search for a particular person across the city by using a photograph. Additionally, the software will enable searches for individuals or objects based on attributes entered in text form.
UP Police Uses AI-Based CCTV Surveillance to Enhance Security in Ayodhya
Prashant Kumar, the Director General of Law and Order, explains that the Uttar Pradesh police has launched a pilot project for AI-based CCTV surveillance in Ayodhya to enhance security measures. This surveillance system will aid in detecting patterns followed by frequent visitors or any common trends among visitors to the temple premises. Staqu’s Trinetra software, which has digitized criminal records for the UP police, will provide access to a database of 800,000 individuals with criminal backgrounds.
Privacy Concerns Raised as AI Surveillance Cameras Monitor Ayodhya
Although the deployment of AI-based CCTV surveillance systems can greatly enhance security, concerns have been raised about privacy issues. N. S. Nappinai, an advocate at the Supreme Court and founder of Cyber Saathi, highlights the need for clear laws and regulations to protect privacy when using such cameras in public spaces. She stresses the importance of effective checks and balances to ensure privacy is not violated when monitoring through AI-based CCTV.
Nappinai also emphasizes the necessity of transparency in data collection and access by private entities involved in such projects. Without proper guidelines and transparency, the engagement of private entities may potentially compromise individual rights to the protection of their data.
Staqu Technologies, a Gurgaon-based startup, is carrying out the pilot project in Ayodhya in collaboration with the UP Special Task Force. Despite facing operational challenges due to various construction sites in the city, the company successfully integrated the Jarvis software with the existing CCTV cameras in Ayodhya, including those installed inside the temple and various parts of the city. The ease of availability of CCTV cameras facilitated the implementation of the AI surveillance system.
